Why do we need Quiet Mark?

World Health Organisation research shows that environmental noise pollution affects mental and physical health and is now second only to air pollution as the world’s largest killer pollutant. An independent scheme, Quiet Mark acoustically tests products to enable consumers to easily identify quieter products for the home, workplace and public spaces which will benefit health and wellbeing. The following results, from the 'Quiet Mark UK National Noise Survey 2023', offer a revealing glimpse of the impact of noise pollution on daily life, as well as the important role of quieter products.

84%

84% of Americans agree noise does matter when buying appliances for the home

74%

Nearly 3 in 4 say that they would be more likely to buy an appliance specifically labelled "quiet"

77%

More than 3 in 4 Americans have changed how they view noise in their environment since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic

68%

Over two thirds of Americans say they would consider the noise level at work when making future employment decisions

Look for the Quiet Mark

The Quiet Mark acoustics team scientifically tests and assesses high performance, low-noise appliances and solutions in all categories. The distinctive purple mark displayed on a product gives assurance to the consumer that the product they buy is amongst the quietest currently available on the market.

Our Partnerships

Quiet Mark has drawn together a unique alliance of major retailers and NBS, a leading construction data and specification platform, to help shoppers and specifiers find the quietest appliance technology and acoustic materials available on the market to support people's health and wellbeing. By highlighting the distinctive purple Quiet Mark as a trusted symbol, our partners are enabling buyers to make a more informed choice about quieter high-performance products and materials they will share their lives with. This is a powerful example of collective customer care to combat stress-related noise in the built environment - an important health and environment issue.

Quiet Mark also partners with some of the most trusted and respected names in publishing. Since 2018, in the United States of America, the US Good Housekeeping Institute, who is responsible for testing and reviewing thousands of products for the benefit of its 3.68 million readers, joined forces with Quiet Mark to help reduce noise pollution in the home. Our rigorous acoustic testing process continually raises the bar to encourage excellent acoustic design. More recently, in March 2022, Trusted Reviews and Quiet Mark announced a strategic product testing collaboration to profile products which reduce noise pollution to provide greater support for consumer health & wellbeing.
